How to Develop Self-Confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking
Dale Carnegie
New York: Pocket Books. 1926/1956.

Some interesting and practical points on successful public speaking.

Have something to say that won't remain unsaid. Choose your topic early and then let it simmer in your mind for days.

Conclude by appealing for action.

Don't read notes or your speech.

Three methods for remembering: impression, repetition, association. To remember names, ask questions about it, spelling, etc. Make nonsense sentence out of main points. Pause before and after important ideas. Smile. Exude attitude that you're glad to be there.

Interesting opening. Know it explicitly in advance. Don't use humorous story unrelated to your speech.

Plan your ending in advance. Close with brief summary of your points.
